Summer Movies

Below is a list of the top ten movies that I want to see this summer. They are in order of when they come out, not of how bad I want to see them. If they were in order of importance than of course Indy would be at the top of my list.

1. What Happens in Vegas (Already Playing) – This movie just looks cute and funny.

2. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (May 16) – I loved the first Narnia movies and I love the books so I definitely want to check out this movie.

3. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (May 22) – The movie I have been waiting for, for most of my life. I grew up on the first three films and watched them repeatedly. I loved them all and I am so excited for this movie.

4. Sex and the City: The Movie (May 30) – I never watched the show until it was on in reruns. Now I am just curious to see what happens next.

5. The Dark Knight (July 18) – The first Batman with Christian Bale was good, so I want to see this one too. I also want to see it because it is Heath Ledger’s final role.

6. Mamma Mia (July 18) – This is a musical made out of entirely ABBA songs. It looks cute and funny and Colin Firth is in it, who I love. Plus, I am a sucker for musicals so it should be good.

7. The X-Files: I Want to Believe (July 25) – Fox Mulder is back! Once he left the show, I had hard time staying interested in it. However, I am curious to see what they do with the movie.

8. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (August 1) – I loved the first two Mummy movies. This is where I really started to like Brendan Fraser as an actor. I really liked Rachel Weisz as Evy and am disappointed she is not back for this movie, but I like the twist of it being set in China this time. It should be a cool change.

9. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 (August 8) – The first movie was really cute and the books are cute too.

10. The Accidental Husband (August 22) – This movie has a cute plotline and should be a lot of fun. Plus Colin Firth is in this one too and I n case you didn’t realize it yet, I really like him as an actor.

Twilight

I found someone to fill my Harry Potter withdrawal and his name is Edward Cullen. Edward is the leading man in the Twilight series and he is one HOT vampire. I had the first book, Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, sitting on my to be read shelf for almost a year and have been meaning to read it, but I kept putting it off. However, since I finished working on my thesis and I heard such great things about this book, I couldn't put it off anymore. So I picked up the book last Thursday afternoon and only put it down to grab food and go to the bathroom. I finished it later that same night. The story starts out with Bella Swan moving to the the small town of Forks, Washington where it is rainy and cloudy most of the time. On her first day of school she meets some new friends but is intrigued by the Cullen family, especially Edward. Edward is also attracted to Bella but is afraid that he will kill her. The two of them have trouble staying apart even though he knows that he could hurt her, even kill her. It is a really good story and I don't want to say more because I don't want to give anything away. But they are really good books.

That day after I finished Twilight I went to Target and bought the next two books in the series, New Moon and Eclipse. I finished them last night and I can only say that each book seems to be getting better. I am really excited for the next book, Breaking Dawn, to come out in August. Stephenie Meyer is also writing a book called Midnight Sun, which is the same story as Twilight but told from Edward’s point of view instead of Bella's. The first chapter can be found here.

They are also making a movie out of Twilight which will be out on December 12, 2008 and it looks really good. The actor that played Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter films will be playing Edward Cullen and I think he will do a really good job. There is a teaser trailer up for the movie right now and I am excited to see it. I heard they are thinking of making movies out of the other books as well, but that has not been announced for sure. I hope the movie is half as good as the book and if it is, I hope they make the rest of the books into movies as well. The cast looks pretty good and from what I saw from the trailer it looks like they will be staying pretty true to the book. I am excited to see how they create some of the scenes. it should be fun.
